Ready to run around Barcelona, ticking off all the main attractions on your list? Here are the best brunch places in Barcelona to fuel your activity-packed itinerary!
Besides all the obvious things the Catalonian capital is known for, its rich art scene, unique architecture, and great beaches, one thing that is not to be missed is Barcelona’s incredible food scene.
From the freshest seafood to flavorful tapas and plates upon plates of jamón Iberico, there are so many amazing places to eat in Barcelona.
However, if you’re missing a good ol’ brunch while playing tourist, fear not, Barcelona also has some great spots for eggs Benedict, pancakes, and even chilaquiles(!)
After having spent nearly three months eating my way around the city while living there for work, I’ve compiled this list of the best brunch places in Barcelona.
Here you’ll find a mix of brunch options—from a Kiwi-inspired café to a trendy Californian diner, and even a Spanish-style brunch.
So, let’s dive in!

Best Brunch Places in Barcelona
Gringa All Day: Trendy Californian diner
Even for the most adventurous of foodie travelers, sometimes all you want is good old comfort food—for those days, Gringa All Day in Barcelona is the place to go!
Gringa All Day, a trendy Californian diner, is one of the best brunch places in Barcelona for ultimate comfort food, serving up all the hearty brunch dishes you could dream of—just steps away from Arc de Triomf.
From fried chicken and waffles, hearty breakfast burritos, fluffy pancakes with crispy bacon, and even flavorful and crunchy chilaquiles!!—my favorite.
In true American fashion, the portions are generous, so make sure to come with a big appetite.
The coffee, however, lives up to the diner standard, so if you’re picky about your coffee, better skip it here and try one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona instead.
- Address: Carrer de Trafalgar, 39, 2, Eixample, 08010 Barcelona, Spain
- Opening hours: Monday and Tuesday from 10 am – 4 pm, Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am – 11 pm, and Sunday from 10 am – 10 pm.

Citizen Café Barcelona: One of the best brunch places in Barcelona
One of the best brunch places in Barcelona—and probably our most visited one during our three-month stay—has to be Citizen Café.
Citizen Café Barcelona is a spacious brunch spot with an extensive menu—from eggs Benedict and salmon bagels to French toast, avocado toast, açaí bowls, and hearty breakfast sandwiches.
Whatever your brunch-loving heart desires, you’ll find it here.
Their coffee is also great, as well as their freshly squeezed juices—10/10, a great brunch spot all around.
This is why Citizen Cafe was our go-to spot whenever we had friends visiting Barcelona. And everyone that we took here loved it!
The location is also very central, making it easy to add to your sightseeing itinerary.
- Address: Pl. d’Urquinaona, 4, L’Eixample, 08010 Barcelona, Spain
- Opening hours: Every day from 9 am – 4:30 pm

Billy Brunch: Popular Spanish brunch chain
Billy Brunch is every brunch lover’s dream restaurant in Spain—a country with strict meal times—as this Spanish brunch restaurant chain offers brunch all day-ish (until 5 pm), every day!
No more starving yourself until dinner time.
If you had a late night out, woke up by noon, and need brunch food at 2 pm, Billy Brunch has your back!
Here you can get everything from hearty omelets to flavorful Shakshuka, eggs Benedict, avocado toast, English breakfast, and more.
I find their dishes to be a little bit simpler than the previous two places, so it wouldn’t be my first option, but it’s still a good one to have on your radar.
They also have a few locations around Barcelona, so it might be more accessible if you’re not staying close to El Born or the Gothic quarter.
- Address: Carrer de Bailèn, 115, L’Eixample, 08009 Barcelona, Spain (most central location, but there are a few more)
- Opening hours: Every day from 9:30 am – 5 pm

Xurreria Laietana: Traditional churros with chocolate
Churros are, without a doubt, one of the top foods to try in Barcelona—especially if looking for a more local breakfast option—and the locally loved Xurreria Laietana is the place to go.
This cute counter-serve restaurant specializes in the popular Spanish sweet treat of churros con chocolate—a traditional Spanish breakfast.
The place is snug and charming, with an old-school vibe, the service is friendly and efficient, and the churros are piping hot and made on the spot.
Make sure to order a side of chocolate to dip the airy dough in, and if you want some extra sweetness, order the churros covered in sugar.
Loved by locals and tourists alike, this spot is worth visiting for a cheap and tasty Spanish-style “brunch” in Barcelona.
- Address: Via Laietana, 46, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona
- Opening hours: Unknown… can’t find them anywhere online, but worth checking if they are open when in Barcelona.

Little Fern: Cute brunch spot with a New Zealand touch
Little Fern is a chic yet casual brunch spot, with an airy, clean aesthetic, and a modestly sized menu with sweet and savory options inspired by New Zealand’s brunch scene.
Our favorites here were their avocado smash—because what is brunch without avocado?—the special edition breakfast burger with caramelized onions and grilled cheddar.
For a sweet little something, don’t miss their warm banana bread, with vanilla mascarpone, raspberry coulis, and nut crumble.
Yup, mouth-watering!
Due to the Kiwi influence, you can also expect pretty good coffee here, which is always a plus at a brunch spot!
- Address: C. de Pere IV, 168, 08005 Barcelona, España
- Opening hours: Every day from 9 am – 4 pm

Old School Bakery & Cafe: Affordable breakfast in Barcelona
As much as I love classic brunch, while being in Barcelona, I also wanted to experience the local breakfast culture. And after some research and lots of walking by bakeries and coffee shops, I started noticing a pattern.
Lots of cafés—the ones that seemed more local at least—tend to offer some kind of breakfast combos.
At Old School Bakery & Cafe, I found this combo of one bikini (hot ham and cheese sandwich), a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, and a cappuccino for just 4.50€! 🤯
Like, WHAT?!
Super affordable, filling, and an all-around great breakfast option for those days when you just don’t feel like splurging on a 15€ brunch.
I really enjoyed my breakfast at this bakery, but to be honest, you will see this kind of deal at a variety of cafes around the city.
So just keep your eyes peeled for something closer to where you are staying. But if you are in the area, I also recommend this place.
- Address: Carrer de Bilbao, 216, 08018 Barcelona, España
- Opening hours: Every day from 9:30 am – 2 pm, and then again from 5 – 9 pm

Santagloria Coffee & Bakery: Casual bakery for a quick breakfast
Santagloria Coffee & Bakery was one of those places I stumbled upon while being ravenous at a very awkward time of day due to having skipped breakfast—learn from my mistakes and never do this, it will just make your travel companion very miserable.
Santagloria Coffee & Bakery is a little bakery chain that offers tasty baked goods (duh), fresh orange juice, massive cups of coffee, and a cheesecake that I didn’t get to try but looked amazing!
During my quick stop here, I had a hot jamón ibérico and cheese croissant, and freshly squeezed orange juice—and it was just perfect!
Simple, affordable, quick, and delicious.
One of the best places for brunch in Barcelona if you just need a quick bite to eat before going on about your day.
They have different locations throughout the city, so you will probably run into one.
- Address: Carrer de Sant Antoni Maria Claret, 50, Gràcia, 08025 Barcelona, Spain (there are multiple locations in the city, this one is closest to Sagrada Familia)
- Opening hours: Weekdays from 7:30 am – 8 pm, weekends from 8 am – 2 pm

Forn de Pa, Cafeteria Puiggròs 2: The best chocolate croissants in Barcelona
I made my way to Cafeteria Puiggròs after reading in their reviews that quite a few people claimed to have eaten THE best chocolate croissant in the city—and if that doesn’t draw you right in, I don’t know what will.
Sadly, I didn’t have many chocolate croissants in Barcelona to compare them with, but I can assure you, the Puiggròs chocolate croissants are something else!
I accompanied my flaky chocolate croissant with a surprisingly great cappuccino, which was shocking since I normally find bakery coffee to be nothing but disappointing—but not here.
Other things worth mentioning about this popular bakery are the facts that there is free wifi and lots of space to sit down, making it the perfect place to do a bit of work or just take a little break from exploring.
- Address: Avinguda de Gaudí, 39, 08025 Barcelona, España
- Opening hours: Monday to Saturday from 7 am – 10 pm, closed on Sundays
