Tickets for Sagrada Familia are booked; now all you need is the energy to keep you checking every city attraction off your list. Fear not, here are some of the best coffee shops in Barcelona to keep you caffeinated during your trip to this iconic city!
Barcelona, a city famous for its rich history, stunning architecture, and incredible cuisine, also has a thriving coffee culture that would make any coffee lover cry tears of joy.
And while most brunch spots in Barcelona serve pretty decent coffee, the city’s coffee scene is so good and diverse that it’s worth dedicating time to exploring the coffee shops alone.
However, with more specialty coffee shops than one can explore during a single trip, it’s truly overwhelming to know where to begin—believe me, I’ve been the victim of the coffee shakes due to trying way too many coffee shops in one day, all in the name of research.
So, after living in Barcelona for almost three months and testing 20+ coffee shops, here’s the summary of the best coffee shops in Barcelona that I think are worth adding to your itinerary.
Plus, some additional coffee shops sprinkled at the end of the post that are good for specific reasons.

The Best Coffee Shops In Barcelona For Coffee Lovers
Blackbird Coffee Corner: Specialty coffee shop near La Sagrada Familia
This snug specialty coffee shop is one I kept coming back to again and again, as I showed friends around the city since it’s near La Sagrada Familia, which made it the perfect pit stop on a tourist day.
Blackbird’s space is tiny, with just a bar inside with three stools to sit, however, you might get lucky and find one of their coveted outdoor tables free to enjoy your café con leche out on their terrace space.

From the first time I had a coffee here, I knew I liked their coffee, and soon after, I realized they use Nomad Coffee beans, which explains it all—you will soon learn that Nomad is top of the class when it comes to coffee in Barcelona.
As if I needed any other reason to love this place, the service is warm and friendly, and they have one of the best banana breads I’ve ever had.
Definitely one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona to visit, especially if you are already in the La Sagrada Familia area.

Orval Studio: Artsy spot with great coffee near Arc de Triomf
I’m sad I only discovered this coffee shop towards the end of my long stay in Barcelona because it would definitely have become a regular spot for me.
The beautiful Orval Studio has it all: lots of seating space, even a second floor designated for laptop usage, pastries, brunch classics, and of course, delicious coffee provided by Nomad beans.
They even have wine options for when coffee time turns into aperitivo time. I’m telling you, they have it all!

The coffee shop is a beautifully curated space with welcoming, creative design and greenery dangling from the second-floor balcony, a bookshelf with selected cool magazines, and coffee table books on display and for sale.
Definitely one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona to slow down, enjoy a great cup of coffee in a beautiful space, and maybe look through a magazine while taking a break from all that wandering. And it’s only a few blocks away from the unmissable Arc de Triomf.

Nomad Coffee Lab: The best coffee shop in Barcelona for serious coffee lovers
If you ask a coffee lover, or any barista, where to have coffee in Barcelona, I can guarantee you Nomad will be one of the first names anyone will tell you.
This popular coffee shop was born in Barcelona in 2014, becoming a main driver in the city’s specialty coffee wave, making it one of the OGs in the Barcelona coffee scene.
The space is modern and minimalistic; the star of the show is the coffee, which you can see by the menu on the wall, where you’ll find all the different kinds of beans on offer that day, categorized by filter or espresso.

The machine they use to make their espresso is super interesting and unique, nothing like I’ve ever seen before. The service is educational and friendly, with the baristas willing to guide you through the flavor profiles to find the right drink for you.
This is definitely a coffee experience more than your average pick-up-and-go coffee spot, as well as a great place to try something new. I am more of an espresso-based drink girl, but I also tried some filter coffee here, and it was delicious.
A must-visit coffee shop for any coffee lover visiting Barcelona, and a great place to pick up a coffee bag as a souvenir to bring a taste of Barcelona back home with you.

Good News Coffee: Modern newspaper stand with delicious coffee to go
This cute little coffee shop caught my attention immediately.
Located in the middle of a sidewalk, Good News Coffee is a modern twist on the old-school newspaper stand, selling design magazines instead and tasty coffee prepared to perfection.
They have a few locations around the city, the one that I visited is the one close to Arc de Triomf, and I particularly remember stopping after the first sip because I was like “Wow, that’s nice!”.
A great spot to pick up a coffee on the go, maybe a unique magazine to take as a souvenir, and keep on exploring beautiful Barcelona.

Bar La Camila: Beautifully renovated, lively neighborhood cafe
Bar La Camila is a women-owned, beautifully renovated bar tucked away in the residential Gracia neighborhood.
Maintaining some inspiration from the 70s with beautiful wood paneling and a touch of modern minimalism, provided by the renovation, the cafe has a cozy atmosphere that invites you to slow down and pretend that you’re a local of the neighborhood.
They serve delicious coffee using Dalston beans, and a variety of simple and delicious breakfast options such as toast with butter and jam, tortilla de patatas with pan con tomate, and flaky croissants.

In the late afternoon, the bar element of the name comes into play with locals sipping on wine and snacking on olives while catching up with friends.
One of the best cafes in Barcelona to visit for a local breakfast experience with great coffee, in the heart of one of my favorite neighborhoods to explore in this beautiful city.
PS: Make sure to check their opening hours for the day you plan to visit, as they differ from day to day.

Slowmov: Modern and cute coffee roastery
Another great coffee shop in the lively Gracia neighborhood is SlowMov, a modern roastery with a minimalist design, slightly reminiscent of a Scandinavian coffee shop.
Here you can find plenty of seating space, delicious and perfectly prepared flat whites, some food options ranging from sandwiches to little yogurt cups to banana bread, and an incredibly friendly atmosphere provided by their passionate baristas and the sense of community you feel from regular customers coming in to chat.
Similar to Nomad, I noticed that some of the other coffee shops in Barcelona that I particularly liked were using Slowmov beans, which is always a great sign!
So make sure to grab yourself a bag of beans as a souvenir from one of the best coffee shops in Barcelona.

Departure Coffee: Hidden coffee shop in El Raval
Hidden in an alley in El Raval, Departure Coffee is a great spot to visit while exploring this vibrant area of Barcelona.
I particularly loved the flavor of their café con leche, and it was then that I noticed that they use SlowMov beans. I love it when I find a pattern!
The coffee shop is spacious, offering plenty of seating space, compared to other coffee shops in the proximity, as well as wifi and outlets, making it one of the best coffee shops to work in Barcelona. They also have some small bites on sale, such as cookies and the ever-present banana bread.
The place is a bit dark due to its location, sandwiched between buildings with not much natural light coming in, but there are two seats by a window, or if you’re only coming for a quick pick-me-up coffee, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Lodetto: Design-focused snug coffee shop
Only a couple of steps away from Departure Coffee, you will find the vibrant Lodetto.
Having Departure Coffee so close to Lodetto makes them look like a lumberjack friend next to a Barbie girl; the vibes are opposite to each other, but the coffee remains great in both.

Lodetto branding is bright, happy, and memorable, a colorful oasis in this grungier part of town with caricaturesque drawings in bright pink and red.
The space is snug, but there are few seating options. They offer some small bites, my favorite one being their pão de queijo, Brazilian little cheesy balls, with a tasty flat white to keep hunger at bay until Spanish dinner time.
They use 3 Marks Coffee, which is another popular coffee spot in Barcelona.

Dalston: Tiniest of coffee shops in El Raval
Another cute coffee shop in the Raval neighborhood is the tiny Dalston, which is almost just as wide as its entrance door.
The space is tight but adorable, with only three seats available on a small bench by the wall under the merch display—every square meter counts here—this is more of a grab-and-go kind of coffee shop.
The highly reviewed coffee shop is also a roastery, with its beans being used around the city by other cafes. Their coffee is on the darker roast side, which makes their coffee quite strong, so be careful with the flat white.
The second time I visited it, I had a café con leche, and that was much more to my taste.
Also, make sure to try their banana bread as it’s one of the best ones I’ve had in Barcelona—maybe it’s from the same baker as Blackbird (?) because they were both amazing!

Brew Coffee: One of the best coffee shops in Barcelona, all around
I might be biased when it comes to Brew Coffee since it was the first coffee shop I visited in Barcelona, and it keeps a special place in my heart.
This no-frills specialty coffee shop quickly became my go-to spot during my almost three-month stay in the city due to ticking all the coffee shop boxes: plenty of seating space, wifi, a variety of meals and small bites, and of course, amazing coffee.
Because of all this, Brew Coffee is not only one of the best coffee shops in the city but also one of the best coffee shops to work in Barcelona (during weekdays only, laptops are not allowed on the weekend).

The vibe is casual, a true neighborhood cafe with regulars coming in and out, chatting with the baristas about the bean selection of the day.
With its simple but quality food menu, this top coffee shop is also a great place to eat cheap in Barcelona, with its flaky croissant sandwiches, tasty bocadillos de jamon, and delicious salads that will keep you fed in those awkward times between meal hours.
PS: Make sure to also try their cheesecake. After having tried half of their menu, I can guarantee that anything they do, they do it well.
SIP Coffee Roasters: Elegant coffee shop in El Raval
SIP Coffee Roasters is one of the newest additions to this list, as I’ve just discovered it on my most recent trip to Barcelona, but I immediately fell in love with it.
Tucked away in the edgy El Raval, just a few blocks away from the busy Las Ramblas, SIP Coffee Roasters feels like a breath of fresh air.
Its cozy interior, lined with dark wood, feels like stepping into a moody studio, which I love. There’s music coming out of a record player, and the whole coffee shop is filled with natural light.
More importantly, the coffee is delicious, soft, probably on a lighter roast for an espresso and milk drink, but still delicious.
What’s not to love?
There’s also some seating space outside, along the wall of the cafe on small wooden benches, which is perfect for people-watching and enjoying those sunny Barcelona days.

Hidden Coffee Roasters: Beloved local roastery
Hidden Coffee Roasters has been on my Barcelona coffee bucket list for a long time.
The only reason I never visited was that their location in El Born is quite dark, and I normally like to sit down and enjoy my coffee, and in sunny Barcelona, I like to see daylight.
I know, I’m very specific with my coffee shops.
Luckily, on our most recent trip, we stayed in the Gracia neighborhood, and looking through maps, I learned there’s another Hidden Coffee location over here, with lots of natural light—score!
After sitting down in a light-filled room with my café con leche, I can confirm that the coffee of this highly-rated Barcelona coffee shop is pretty good!
The coffee shop itself is really modern, with black wooden walls and floors, silver stools and tables, and a very futuristic coffee bar. Even though the interior is dark, the front of the coffee shops is all glass, letting lots of light in.
With your coffee order, you get given a card with the information about the coffee you’re drinking, which I always appreciate.
And since this coffee brand is also a roastery, if you like what you drink, you can always buy some coffee beans to take home as a souvenir.

Coffee shops worth mentioning:
Saga Coffee: Good coffee shop to work from in Barcelona
Saga coffee shop has okay coffee; however, I do think it’s worth mentioning it as it’s a good coffee shop to work in Barcelona, if that’s what you are after.
The place is beautiful and modern, they have an extensive food menu with bagels, salads, and pastries, wifi, and a whole designated laptop area at the back of the shop.
Syra: Local coffee shop chain
Syra is a coffee shop chain that thrives on convenience, as there are plenty of locations around the city.
I found their drink preparation a little bit inconsistent, but it does the trick if you just need a quick pick-me-up, and chances are, there’s a location close to you at all times.

The Coffee: Japanese-inspired coffee shop
This minimalist and modern coffee shop has its origins in Brazil, but it’s inspired by the Japanese coffee shop design, which I love.
One of the perks of this coffee shop is the convenience element, as they have a few locations in the city, and here you order on a tablet, so it’s perfect if you are shy about ordering in Spanish.
They also offer a more creative menu with some interesting flavor options, such as a vanilla matcha latte and a caramel flat white.

Final thoughts on the best coffee shops in Barcelona
Barcelona truly has more coffee shops than anyone could ever need, which honestly makes it a bit overwhelming to even look at Google Maps and just pick one.
Luckily, I loveeee doing the research and finding the best coffee shops in any city, and Barcelona has been such a fun coffee scene to explore throughout my many visits.
Some coffee shops have been a complete miss (which is why they’re not on this list), and others have become absolute favorites that I’ll revisit whenever I’m back in the city, like Nomad and Brew Coffee.
So, you can be sure that after visiting 20+ coffee shops in Barcelona, throughout my almost three months of living here, and multiple visits, these are the top of the top.
I hope your coffee-loving heart found this guide useful! Did I miss any of your favorite coffee shops in Barcelona? Please let me know, I love an excuse to add more coffee spots to my list!
