Looking for the best coffee shops in Osaka to keep you caffeinated during your trip to Japan’s foodie capital? You came to the right place!

Osaka, one of the top places to visit in Japan for first-timers, is well known for its incredible food scene. More specifically, for its dedication and high standards when it comes to creating a dish and perfecting it to a T—my idea of heaven.

After living in the foodie capital for three months, trying out some of the best places to eat in Osaka, and visiting as many coffee shops as possible, I quickly realized that the same attention to detail extends to coffee.

Osaka is filled with incredible cafes, each carefully crafting its drinks and perfecting its particular cafe snacks.

Whether you are spending one day in Osaka or a few, there are plenty of coffee shops to squeeze into your itinerary, as these are all sprinkled around the city, making them easy to visit while sightseeing.

And to make sure you don’t miss any during your trip, here’s a roundup—in no particular order—of some of the best coffee shops in Osaka you should visit!

Cafe LA: A cool international hangout spot close to Dotonburi

We came across Cafe LA on our first day out exploring the neighborhood, and it felt like the best discovery to find this cozy underground cafe on a humid Japanese summer day.

You will find this casual and welcoming cafe at the bottom of a colorful staircase, on a basement floor close to Dotonburi. Making it the perfect spot to hide away from the heat— and the crowds—and cool down with an iced matcha and a round of UNO—they have tons of cards and board games.

I didn’t get to try their traditional coffee since this café also doubles as one of the coolest bars in Osaka—serving coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening. So, instead, I opted for their espresso martini, and it was delicious!

This cozy café is also a little haven for foreigners in Osaka, with nightly international events such as trivia nights, Mario Kart tournaments, and language exchange programs.

Melbourne Coffee, Craft & Cider: Australian-style coffee shop

Any coffee shop that dares put an Australian city in its business name has to live up to the expectation of having amazing coffee, and Melbourne Coffee didn’t disappoint.

We initially went to Melbourne for the brunch—which, to be honest, I wasn’t impressed by—but we stayed for the coffee.

Using Allpress beans to prepare their beverages—which I discovered while exploring the best coffee shops in Tokyo— their flat white was so tasty that we had two in a row, and decided to deal with the coffee shakes later.

Sadly, I don’t think the brunch lives up to the Google Maps hype, but brunch options in Osaka are limited, so maybe that’s why people still appreciate it that much.

Mill Pour Coffee: Snug neighborhood cafe

This adorable and tiny neighborhood cafe is easy to miss if you are not paying attention—and that would be a shame since it’s one of the best coffee shops in Osaka.

In very Japanese fashion, Mill Pour Coffee has an indoor space barely big enough for a handful of people to stand in—so tiny and cute.

Luckily, this neighborhood cafe also offers some outdoor seating space—perfect for a good weather day—with a small community table surrounded by three small benches for customers to share.

I find this very cute since it makes you feel part of Osaka’s everyday life, sharing a bench with a local stopping by for their morning coffee—and Osakans are way more open than Tokyoites, so you might even make a friend here like I did.

The coffee here is pretty good, with strong lattes and a few bites on offer, such as the tasty French toast—which I had way too often—and the Japanese cafe’s staple, hotdogs- which I still never had… maybe next time.

Cafe Tales: Colombia Specialty Coffee with a warm Osakan touch

This warm and welcoming specialty coffee shop is a little bit off the beaten path but is very well worth visiting for incredible coffee and one of the best breakfasts in Osaka.

At Cafe Tales, they are passionate about their coffee, which is carefully prepared, as is their delicious French toast with homemade whipped cream.

This has to be the meal I ate the most during my three months living in Osaka—it’s that good!

Cafe Tales also offers a bit more seating space than other coffee shops in the city, with five tables inside AND wifi, which makes it a great place to work from if needed.

My favorite element from this coffee shop, though, has to be the incredibly warm shop owner, Yuya, and my favorite barista, Mari, who make coming to the coffee shop such a pleasure.

With incredible coffee, the best brunch, and friendly Osakan vibes, Cafe Tales has it all, and that is why it is at the top of my list of the best coffee shops in Osaka that you shouldn’t miss!

Saturdays NYC: Spacious work-friendly coffee shop

Another great coffee shop not to miss in Osaka is the cool Saturdays NYC, located in Amerika-mura, the little pocket of Japanese youth culture in Osaka.

This airy, industrial-style coffee shop is the perfect place to escape the Japanese summer heat and take a break from exploring the city.

With plenty of seating space and a communal long wooden table with outlets, perfect for computer work, this coffee shop is one of the most spacious ones in Osaka.

They also offer wifi—which is a bit unreliable in my experience, though maybe you have better luck—big windows that fill the space with natural light, and one of the most extensive food menus from any other coffee shop in the city. With different kinds of hot sandwiches, pastries, and even ice cream sandwiches and affogatos.

And of course, their coffee is good too, but to be honest the main appeal here is the space and food menu, which is hard to come by in Osaka.

Streamer Coffee Company: One of the best coffee shops in Osaka

I discovered Streamer Coffee Company while living in Tokyo for the first six months of our Japan stay, and it quickly became a staple in my coffee shop roster.

This popular Japanese coffee franchise was born in Tokyo and is known for its laid-back style, with industrial metal pillars covered in stickers and skateboards decorating the walls.

The Streamer Coffee Company in Shinsaibashi is one of the best coffee shops in Osaka in my books due to its delicious strong lattes the size of my face, its hearty breakfast sandwiches—perfect for the morning after having too much Sake—, its ample seating space, and its reliable wifi— which believe me, it’s a rarity in Osaka.

They also have delicious non-coffee options such as fresh ginger lemon tea, a small variety of pastries, and the Japanese staple: the hotdog.

A 10/10 spot and one of the best coffee shops in Osaka as an all-rounder.

Mel Coffee Roasters: The tiniest roastery

Every time I visit a new small Japanese cafe, I think to myself, “This HAS to be the tiniest coffee shop ever”, until I visit another one. And with Mel Coffee Roasters I think I found the limit of just how tiny a Japanese coffee shop can get —and it’s so cute!

Tucked away in a quiet area of Osaka, this adorable coffee shop is also the tiniest of roasteries, where you can barely fit the barista, the cashier, and the roaster in the snug space.

As soon as you put your head in the door to order, you can see the tiny roaster working away and smell the freshly roasted coffee you probably noticed from blocks away.

Because of the lack of seating space, they only do takeaway cups, but if you want to sit down for a bit, there are two small benches on the outside, one of them next to some very appreciated fans, especially in the crazy summer heat.

Their latte is quite short, but their espresso blend is delicious.

A little gem worth visiting if you genuinely love discovering new coffee shops, particularly roasteries.

LiLo Coffee Roasters: Popular local coffee shop

LiLo Coffee Roasters is a small, independent, and locally loved coffee shop, with regular customers coming in to chat with the friendly baristas and sip their coffee on one of the few seats in the shop.

As the name suggests, Lilo also roasts its own beans, which you will find being used in various coffee shops around the city.

The cafe is tiny—surprise, surprise—with just about five seats inside and two small tables outside.

However, the coffee is amazing, one of my favorite ones I had in the city, with its flavorful espresso blend. The service is friendly, with every coffee being served with a little “get to know me” card from the barista who prepared your coffee—so cute!

I love how this little gesture also goes to show how proud they are of their craft.

So, even though it might take a few minutes to get an empty seat, I think it’s definitely worth waiting a little to sit down and leisurely enjoy your coffee in one of the best coffee shops in Osaka.

The Roasters Coffee Shinsaibashi: Adorable cafe with small bites

This next Osaka coffee shop has something that other coffee shops lack, and that is a bit more seating space, and some small bites—mostly on the sweeter side, though.

The Roasters Coffee Shinsaibashi is located inside an adorable little house with a facade that looks straight out of a movie, with only the cashier fitting on the first floor and all seating provided on the second floor.

The coffee is delicious, the room upstairs offers more space than other cafes in the area, there is wifi, and if you are feeling snacky, you can order one of their tasty pastries provided by the business next door.

Glitch Coffee Osaka: Luxurious specialty coffee

Glitch Coffee came highly recommended to me as one of the best specialty coffee shops in Osaka, and once you enter one of their locations, it is easy to see why.

They take their coffee seriously… but almost too seriously, in my humble opinion.

They specialize in single-origin lighter roasts as they want to let the original flavors of each unique region shine through. This all sounds amazing, however, I strongly dislike a shop where the barista looks down on its clients, and that was the vibe I got here.

They tried to pair me with the right kind of coffee for my taste, and they started with the most expensive one—which was really expensive—and then when I asked for a lower-priced one based on the flavor profile, they tried to sell me again a competition-level one. It just all felt very sales-y and impersonal.

The coffee that I ended up having was great, but still way pricier than other specialty coffee shops.

It’s worth a shot if it is on your coffee bucket list, but you can definitely find great coffee somewhere else for a normal price.

Blue Bottle Coffee: Consistently excellent coffee

We cannot talk about the best coffee shops in Osaka without mentioning my forever-favorite, Blue Bottle Coffee. *finger hearts*

Now, Blue Bottle Coffee is not Japanese; it is actually from California, but it is just SO much better in Asia than it was when I tried it in the USA.

This is why it was also one of the best coffee shops in Seoul, in my opinion. They are just so consistent with their preparation on this side of the world, and I love it!

There is only one Blue Bottle location in Osaka up in the Umeda neighborhood, which is perfect if you are in the area visiting the Pokemon or Nintendo Center.

While I never visited this location—mostly due to the massive lines that were formed outside—I adore Blue Bottle, so you should definitely give it a try if you haven’t done so before.

Brooklyn Roasting Company: Spacious coffee shop close to Namba Shrine

Brooklyn Roasting Company is another one of my favorite coffee shops from Tokyo, which I was so excited to find in Osaka, with three locations in the city.

They have a small coffee bar inside a mall and two big spacious shops—one in Kitahama and one in Namba—making it easy to fit a stop to one of their locations while exploring Osaka.

The Brooklyn Roasting Company in Namba is the one I ended up visiting the most as it is on the way to the spectacular Namba Shrine.

This location makes for the perfect spot for a coffee break as you explore the city’s highlights during your day in Osaka.

The industrial-style location in Namba also offers lots of seating space, delicious coffee, and some pastries if you need a snack.

And since they are also a roasting company, you can also purchase some of their delicious beans to take home as a souvenir—highly recommended!

From the tiniest of roasteries to Colombian niche coffee shops to friendly neighborhood cafes, there are so many unique coffee shops to explore in Osaka.

So I hope this guide to the best coffee shops in Osaka helps you narrow down a few that you want to visit, and I hope it complements your Osaka itinerary to keep you caffeinated as you explore this incredible city!
