Best Wineries In Valle De Guadalupe

🍷 Some wineries only allow visitors with pre-booked wine experiences, which can get annoying if you don’t plan much in advance like I tend to do sometimes, so luckily many of these will allow walk-in visitors.

El Cielo Winery: Fun wine-tasting tours

El Cielo is a picturesque winery offering delicious wine—and beautifully packaged, I love their bottles—unique and fun wine tours, as well as a casual wine experience where you can order wine à la carte to sip on their terrace.

This winery offers lots of outdoor seating space surrounded by a beautiful garden, massive aloe vera plants, and cute wandering peacocks.

The wine tastings offered at El Cielo are varied and for all budgets, however, one of the highlights has to be its unique tours, specifically the one in La Carreta.

In the unique La Carreta Wine Tour, you get to sit on the back of a wagon as you are shown around the vineyards while sipping on some wine.

It looks like so much fun!

However, it is only offered on the weekends—we sadly didn’t get to do it—so make sure not to miss it, and book it in advance if you are visiting on a weekend.

If you are not interested in doing a tour or a tasting, don’t worry, El Cielo also accepts walk-in visitors to their terrace, where you can choose a glass, or a bottle, from their wine menu and leisurely sip away.

Bodegas Magoni: Locally loved wine

One of the best wineries in Valle de Guadalupe that you cannot skip while visiting the Mexican wine region, is the locally loved Bodegas Magoni.

This classic winery is located in the heart of Valle de Guadalupe and is one of the most loved regional wines, making it easy to find in most local supermarkets.

This simple and straight-to-the-point winery offers a sleek wine-tasting room and a rustic outdoor seating space that will make you feel like you are somewhere in the Mediterranean.

Bodegas Magoni offers various wine-tasting options, from just whites, reds, or a mix of both, which you can enjoy on their cozy outdoor patio, sitting under stunningly massive oak trees.

Even if you cannot fit a stop at Casa Magoni into your itinerary, don’t worry, you can easily find some of their wines at most supermarkets in Baja California, and create your wine-tasting experience at home!

Wine tasting at Bodegas Magoni:

  • Business hours: Open Monday to Sunday from 11:00 – 17:00 hrs
  • Prices: Starting from 250 MXN (13 USD)
  • Accepts walk-ins: Yes
  • Wine to try: Chardonnay Vermentino

Bruma Wine Garden: Blend of design and wine

Known for its interesting design, featuring a unique water element on the terrace of its winery, Bruma is a must-visit for any design lovers visiting Valle de Guadalupe.

Even though Bruma is one of the most popular wineries in the region, visiting it can be a little confusing due to its many different sections—believe me, we got lost inside.

First of all, everything is inside what is considered Bruma Wine Resort, where you will find the Bruma Market, the Bruma Bakery, and most importantly the Bruma Wine Garden.

Then there’s the winery, the popular Fauna restaurant, and the hotel section.

If you are interested in doing a wine tasting you have to head to the Bruma Winery, where you can book a tasting and tour of the wine cellar.

If on the other hand, you just want to casually enjoy a glass of wine, or share a bottle with friends, then you need to head to Bruma Wine Garden instead.

At the Bruma Wine Garden, you can also accompany your wine of choice with some of the incredible dishes from their Michelin Guide-recognized restaurant. PS: Try the ceviche, it’s amazing!

The garden surrounding the restaurant is beautiful, and if you walk around the property you will also find these fun stand-alone mirrors set in the middle of nature, making for a very unique photo op.

Wine tasting at Bruma Winery:

  • Business hours: Open Monday to Sunday from 08:00 – 20:00 hrs
  • Price: Starting from 750 pesos (37 USD)
  • Accepts walk-ins: Yes
  • Wine to try: I cannot remember which one we had, but it was delicious and recommended by our waiter, so just ask the waiter for guidance

Decantos Vinicola: Budget-friendly winery with a view

If you are looking for one of the best wineries in Valle de Guadalupe for the budget-friendly traveler, look no further than Decantos Vinicola—my most recent discovery in the ever-uppricing Valle.

As one of the most affordable options in Valle de Guadalupe, Decantos Vinicola proves that you don’t need to break the bank to enjoy Mexican wine country.

With affordable wine tastings, warm service, and a spacious terrace overlooking the valley, Decantos Vinicola is a great spot to add to your wine-tasting tour of Valle de Guadalupe.

If you are not interested in doing a wine tasting, you can simply order a glass or a bottle of wine off their menu to enjoy on the terrace.

The sommelier is very friendly, and helpful in finding the right wine for you before you commit to getting a bottle.

The place is huge as well, so if you, like us, forget to book a spot in advance at other wineries, you can probably find space last minute at Decantos Vinicola.

Wine tasting at Decantos Vinicola:

  • Business hours: Open from Monday to Sunday from 11:00 – 19:00 hrs
  • Price: Starting from 290 pesos (15 USD)
  • Accepts walk-ins: Yes
  • Wine to try: French Colombard

Monte Xanic: Best winery all around

One of the best wineries in Valle de Guadalupe—and my favorite one—is the acclaimed Monte Xanic.

Monte Xanic is a popular winery, and for good reason, the wines are incredible—with some of them receiving multiple awards—and the location is beautiful, with an outdoor bar, and a rustic seating space around a lake.

Due to its popularity, the only way to visit Monte Xanic winery is by booking a wine tasting in advance, otherwise, they sadly won’t even let you in the premises.

The wine tastings here are on the pricier side of things for Valle de Guadalupe—but average for the California price range—but if you are visiting Valle for the first time and want to try some of the best wine, I would say this is the winery worth splurging on as a special treat.

Definitely one of the top wineries to add to your Valle de Guadalupe itinerary!

  • Business hours: Open from Monday to Sunday from 11:00 – 17:00 hrs
  • Price: Starting from 950 pesos (45 USD)

  • Wine to try: Calixa Chardonnay

Cuatro Cuatros

One of the best wineries in Valle de Guadalupe, when it comes to having a glass of wine with a view, is the famous Cuatro Cuatros.

This one-of-a-kind winery is located a little bit outside of the valley and at the top of a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offering incredible views, especially at sunset.

Because of its unique location, Cuatro Cuatros is an incredibly popular spot, so booking in advance is a must if you want to visit and enjoy a glass of wine with its spectacular view.

You can book a wine tasting through the Cuatro Cuatros website, or have a meal at the Bar Bura Cuatro Cuatros, which you will need to make a deposit for ahead of time, which will work as a meal credit.

I’m telling you, some wineries in Valle de Guadalupe complicate things a bit, which is why I love the ones that accept walk-ins. But if you want to have a view of the ocean with your wine tasting, then this is definitely worth planning for.

  • Price: Starting from 400 MXN (20 USD)
  • Accepts walk-ins: No

Las Nubes Bodegas y Viñedos: Delicious wine, tasty boards, and cute resident dogs

Lastly, another top winery that is worth adding to your wine-tasting bucket list is the adorably named Las Nubes winery, which translates to “the clouds”, a name given due to its location on top of a hill.

We stumbled upon this place while looking for one more winery to squeeze into our day, and I am so happy we did!

The place is gorgeous, nestled up on a hill giving a beautiful view of the valley, the wine is delicious—I would even say it was one of my favorite bottles I tried on my most recent visit to Valle.

Here you can also order charcuterie boards to accompany your wine—we ordered a mixed small board and it was amazing, which is a nice surprise as I have found some boards in Valle to be overpriced and disappointing, but not here.

And as if all of this wasn’t enough to win you over… there are dogs! A few resident dogs sit at your feet while you sip your glass of wine while taking in the view.

Honestly, what more can you ask for?

All in all, a solid 5/5 stars from me!

Tips for visiting Valle de Guadalupe

Driving to Valle de Guadalupe is an experience in itself, with scenic winding dirt roads and everything being a bit spread out.

To help you better prepare for your visit to Mexican wine country, whether you are going for a day or a weekend, here are some tips for visiting Valle de Guadalupe:

  • Make sure your car is in good condition and can handle some dirt roads.
  • Stop by a grocery store beforehand—Calimax is a good option—to stock up on snacks, and lots of water, as it can be expensive inside Valle as there are no grocery stores.
  • Pack anti-nausea pills, and/or anti-nausea wristbands if you get carsick on winding and bumpy roads.
  • Take out some cash beforehand. You might need it for parking, tips, and bills in some places.
  • When driving down to Valle from the border, take the Carretera Escénica 1 Highway, it is a toll road but is much nicer.
  • To avoid drinking and driving, you can rent a private van and a driver to take you around your favorite wineries in Valle de Guadalupe, so everyone in your group can drink.
  • If you visit on the weekend definitely book tastings in advance as they will be packed.
